Protonify is family-owned and staff-operated, in Nanoose Bay on Vancouver Island. The team is small enough that the work you do is visible, and the standards are set by the regulated environment we work in rather than by anyone’s preference.
The company was founded in 1998 by Dr Mark Fisher, David Fisher and Andrew Fisher, around Western Red Cedar (Thuja plicata) oil and the work-up and purification needed to yield high-purity target molecules from it — beta-thujaplicin, methyl thujate and thujic acid.
When the Cannabis Act came into force in Canada, that same separation and purification chemistry proved directly applicable to isolating cannabinoids in their acidic form, THCa in particular. We have been scaling and automating the process ever since.
That history is why the job looks the way it does. This is a process business built by people who did the chemistry themselves, so procedure, measurement and documentation are not paperwork wrapped around the work — they are the work.
Clear communication
Say what you saw, say it early, and say it to the person who can act on it. Most of what goes wrong in a regulated facility goes wrong quietly first — a reading that looked slightly off, a step that felt different today. We would much rather hear it than find it later in the records.
Hard work
This is hands-on production work on a real schedule. Shifts are physical, the equipment needs attention, and the cleaning and record-keeping are part of the job rather than something that happens after it.
Mutual respect
Staff-operated means the people running the equipment are the people who know how it behaves. Experience is listened to regardless of where it sits on an organisation chart, and everyone is expected to extend the same courtesy.
Details matter — and we document everything
We work in a hazardous environment in a regulated market. Every batch, every clean, every deviation and every handover is recorded at the time the work is done. If you find satisfaction in precise work that is written down accurately, this is the kind of place that rewards it.
